Summary: A hot summer night, a lake, and a declaration of love... ************************************************************* Summer Interlude by Susan Frankovich ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ It's hot outside, and the trees are whispering. Beads of sweat trickle down my face as I nervously sit on the park bench waiting. Waiting. Waiting. All this time spent waiting and now, it all comes down to this. This one night, this one moment in time when I'll tell you everything that's been in my heart for the past seven years. Will you take my emotions in the palm of your hand, and hold them next to your heart or will you throw them on the ground and walk away, empty-handed? It's hot outside, and the fireflies are humming. I asked you to meet me at the park by the lake at 9:00. A half hour has already gone by, and you still haven't shown up. I get up off the bench and look towards the road. Maybe you aren't coming. Maybe you're afraid. I wipe the sweat off my forehead, and put my hands in my pockets. I start to pace back and forth in front of the park bench, occasionally pausing to look up at the stars. It's hot outside, and the moon is beckoning. I'm about to head for home when I see the familiar headlights of your car pull into the parking lot. I smile as I watch you gracefully step out onto the pavement and walk towards me. You look so elegant in the moonlight. You stand in front of me and open your mouth to speak, but before you can, I put my finger on your lips. You look into my eyes, trying to read my thoughts, and I let you. Before I can take my finger away, you kiss it, and then I know. You're done waiting too. It's hot outside, and the crickets are singing. I take your hand and lead you to the park bench. We sit down and look out over the lake, our bodies touching, our hands still clasped. The water glistens in the moonlight as the waves lazily wash ashore. The lake is beautiful... mesmerizing....and so are you. It's then that I declare my love for you. It's then that I let you inside my heart, completely and without hesitation. It's then that we kiss for the first time. A sweet kiss, tasting of strawberries and wine. I pull you up off of the bench, and then we're running, the warm breeze blowing through our hair. Before we know it, we're in the water, splashing and laughing under the stars. It's hot outside, and the clouds are dancing. And so are we. Your hair is wet and your blouse is clinging seductively to your skin and I want you. All of you. I grab you and pull your body next to mine and we kiss again. This time it's slow....tantalizingly slow....achingly slow.... Our bodies hum like the fireflies, and the trees no longer whisper. The trees are alive and singing with joy. And so are we. It's hot outside, and the stars are smiling. ~Coming next....Autumn Interlude~
